Lately I've been having a love / hate relationship with Jimmy Buffett.  For the past couple of years, the Margarita Madman has been giving Atlanta the shaft as far as concerts go.   This year was no different.  
 
The Problems

• The concert schedule announcements were late. 
• There was only three days between the concert date announcement and when tickets went on sale. 
• Horrible month for a Jimmy Buffett concert:  April
• Horrible day for a Jimmy Buffett concert:  Tuesday

 
In days of old, Buffett would sale out three Atlanta shows in 10 minutes.   Tickets are still available for this year's show.  Combine poor concert planning with a lackluster CD and you get the current Buffett Landscape.
  
With all that said, the recent CMT Crossroads episode featuring the Zac Brown Band and Jimmy Buffett was excellent.  Mainly because of Zac Brown.  For me, most of the Buffett tunes were old hat, so my opinion may be biased.  The entire episode is available online - click here.

There have been a lot of entertaining politically related billboards popping up across the country lately.  I thought that I would share some of the more entertaining ones.  As a resident of the great state of Georgia, I can really appreciate the Jimmy Carter billboard; however, my favorite – Ronald Regan.  Enjoy, or not.

A Date Which Will Live In Infirmary

Ok, so my title is not original, but unfortunately rather accurate.  So last night the Senate version of ObamaCare passed the House of Representatives. 

 

What do we get with the new law? 

• A Huge Entitlement Program which will ultimately ration healthcare. 
• Increased power of the Federal Government
• Higher Federal Deceits
• Lots and lots of new taxes for everyone 
• Federal Lawsuits from individual states challenging the constitutionality of the new law
• Loss of jobs (see new taxes)
• One step closer to a "single payer" system (i.e. socialized medicine)

 

 

The American people voted for change ... and change is what they're going to get. Higher taxes, more debt, a depressed job market and government control over every aspect of their health care. If that's change you can believe in, they you have a pretty bizarre belief system.

My Online Business Card

Card.ly makes creating online business cards easy, but in today's world of blogs, e-mail, twitter, and such I'm not sure if it's really necessary. 

In some ways it's good in that all of your social websites are linked, but it's also bad in that if you put too much personal information it's easily "screen scraped" by web bots looking for personal information to sell to spammers.

Rumble in Roswell 2010

A new year and a new family reunion.  A big family gathering occurred this weekend at our house in Roswell.  Like I've said in my previous posts -- I don't think I can describe it with words, so I'll let some of the pictures do the talking.  As always it was great to see everyone and get the chance to socialize a bit.

On a side note, I bought a new camera and tried to take more pictures this time around.  I'm a little disappointed in our family picture at the Roswell Square.  Maybe I can figure out how to use the camera better before the next gathering.

 
 

QotD: Super Bowl Hopes

There are some pretty interesting NFL playoff match-ups this weekend. Which two teams would you like to see make it all the way to the Super Bowl?

Indianapolis Colts vs.  New Orleans Saints  (although, I would not mind the Minnesota Vikings)

What is wrong with the Philadelphia Eagles?

I could not let December end without commenting on one of my least favorite teams of the NFL, the notorious Philadelphia Eagles.  Much like a moth dancing around a flame, the Eagles are always drawn near the NFL playoffs trying to be relevant in an increasingly AFC dominated NFL.  
 
So, what's my gripe this time around?

Well, we all know that Philadelphia Eagles have no understanding of:

• How NFL Overtime Works
• How NFL Clock Management / Timeouts Work
• How NFL Challenges Work

Now we have a new item to add to the list.  Apparently the Philadelphia Eagles have no understanding of the word "courage"...

 

The players of the Philadelphia Eagles have awarded Michael Vick the team's Ed Block Courage Award. "I've had to overcome a lot, probably more than one single individual can handle or can bear," Vick said of the honor. "You take a look at what I've been through, you ask certain people to walk in my shoes, they probably couldn't do it. Probably 95 percent of the people in this world -- because nobody had to endure what I've been through, situations I've been put in, situations I've placed myself in."

Yes, because no other convict has ever left prison to work at a job before Michael Vick.  I can only imagine the amount of courage, soul searching, and intestinal fortitude that it took for him to return to regular practice, run a couple of plays a game, and then collect a two million dollar paycheck.

Poor old Thundercats...

It appears that Picklez's dream of portraying Snarf in the upcomming Thundercats movie are at an end.  Warner Brothers has pulled the plug on the movie based on the 80s animated series Thundercats.  Given the recent films, Transformers and G.I. Joe, I can only assume that this is a good thing.

John Cusack's Hot Tub Time Machine

When I first heard of John Cusack's upcoming movie, "Hot Tub Time Machine", I thought it was the worst concept for a motion picture since Michael Bay's racist robots in Transformers. An 80s themed vehicle for John Cusack seems like money in the bank (see Grosse Pointe Blank), but it also could be an idea that could go horribly wrong.

Anyway, the trailer was released today and I have to say... it looks good...  the trailer does anyway.
